Hello everyone. I hope someone can advise me.
I have been off work for 21 months now and not been payed for more than a year. I have been receiving ESA since my pay stopped.
I have been informed that I have been retired on ill health grounds since 18 January and have just received a pay slip with 3 months leu of notice and a little holiday pay. It comes to £1360 (I worked very part-time).
I presume I need to let the benefits people know about this? Will my ESA get stopped or adjusted?
I will also be due a small pension when it gets sorted out. Will this be deducted from my benefits?
It is all a bit of a minefield and I would really be grateful for some advice please.
Thank you

My Husband had to take ill health retirement from work two years ago. You should tell benefits people but it will not affect your benefits. My Husband has been claiming incapacity benefit since then as he is still unfit to work. My Husband also claims a small pension and again this has not affected his benefits. You really are better being up front with the benefits people.
Also if you were paid a lump sum you should not have paid tax on this or if you did you should get a rebate.
Whilst you are claiming ESA you are also having your National Insurance contributions paid towards your state pension.

Hi Karen,
I agree with Jackie, but to be on the safe side you could also check with the NRAS helpline and ask to speak to Bob he's very knowledgeable when it comes to work and benefits and may be able to advise you.
Love,
